(a) (intentionally) to go to sleep; (usually unintentionally) to fall asleep, drop off (Infml), nod off (Infml); il ne faut pas t'~ en classe you mustn't fall asleep in class; je me suis couché de bonne heure mais il m'a fallu un petit moment pour m'~ I went to bed early but it took me a little while to get to sleep (or) to nod off (Infml)
